COZIMORY

CAFE · ADAPTIVE REUSE

PROJECT STORY

The character of an old place carried forward into a small forest.

Rather than erasing the relationship between a long-vacant police substation and its protected tree, we transformed it into the experience of a café reopened to the neighbourhood.

DESIGN RESPONSE

01 · CONDITION

Given conditions

The memory of the small existing building and the protected tree beside it had to be preserved while accommodating a new café operation.

02 · DECISION

Design decision

We retained traces of the original building and connected the interior to the protected tree through soft arches, pale timber and open sightlines.

03 · RESULT

Completed change

Preservation, circulation and operation became one design decision, creating a small café once again open to the neighbourhood.
